Formed in 1961, the Scottsdale Charros are an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of business and civic leaders that help build our community by supporting youth, sports, education, and charitable causes.
1955
Scottsdale Stadium was built with private funds raised by the Scottsdale Baseball Club to serve as a spring training venue for Major League Baseball teams.
1956
The Baltimore Orioles became the first team to host spring training games at the new stadium.
1959
The Boston Red Sox replaced the Orioles as Scottsdale Stadium’s spring training home team.
1961
The Scottsdale Charros were formed during a meeting at Hotel Valley Ho as a special activity affiliate of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce.
1967
After one season without a spring training team, the Chicago Cubs arrived and trained in Scottsdale for the next 12 years.
